The Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP) is a five-year Government of Uganda (GoU) Project financed by a loan and grant from the World Bank/IDA. The overall Project Development Objective (PDO) is to improve;

(i) access to water supply and sanitation services,
(ii) capacity for integrated water resources management and
(iii) the operational performance of service providers in the project areas.

The IWMDP is jointly being implemented by the Ministry of Water & Environment (MWE), and the National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC). Project implementation commenced in June 2018 and is presently scheduled to end in December 2024.

Activities to be implemented under the project include design and construction of a number of new water supply and sanitation systems in different location of the country. In compliance with the World Bank and the Government of Uganda’s Environment and Social (E&S) Safeguard Policies and Public Disclosure requirements, the Government of Uganda, through the two project implementing entities, has prepared a number of environment and social safeguard instruments including Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for the different water supply and sanitation schemes/sub projects to guide management of environmental, health and social issues during design and implementation of the respective works contracts.

The approved (by both the World Bank and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA)) safeguard instruments for the schemes/sub projects being implemented or to be implemented, can be accessed or downloaded here from this website (for schemes implemented by the ministry), or from the NWSC website (for those schemes implemented by the NWSC (HOME - National Water & Sewerage Corporation (nwsc.co.ug) ).
