EURECCCA

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment and through the Directorate of Water Resources Management received funding from Adaptation Fund and Sahara and Sahel Observatory to implement the Enhancing Resilience of Communities to Climate Change through Catchment Based Integrated Management of Water and Related Resources in Uganda(EURECCCA project)in the Catchments of Awoja, Aswa and Maziba respectively. The overall goal of the project is to increase the resilience of communities to the risk of floods and landslides in Maziba, Aswa and Awoja Catchments through promoting catchment based integrated, equitable and sustainable management of water and related resources. The total duration of the project will be 4 years (2017_ 2021). There was a Supervision Mission and report to Stakeholders about the progress of the EURECCCA Project being implemented in Uganda that took place at Royal Suites Hotel in Bugolobi, Kampala from 21st to 22nd June 2018.

 

 

The Stakeholders forum meeting for Pager Matidi Sub Catchment took place at Little Palace Hotel in Kitgum district. The Ministry of Water and Environment through the Directorate of Water Resources Management received funding from the Adaptation Fund through Sahara and Sahel Observatory  (OSS)for implementing the Enhancing Resilience of Communities to Climate Change through Catchment Based Integrated Management of Water and Related Resources in Uganda (EURECCCA)Project. The project will among others support the Government's efforts to implement Integrated Water Resources Management through Catchment Management planning and increase resilience of communities to the risk of floods and landslides in Maziba, Aswa and Awoja Catchment in Victoria, Upper Nile and Kyoga Water Management Zones respectively. In Upper Nile Water Management Zone the project will be implemented in Aswa 1, Agago and Pager Matidi sub catchments found in Aswa Catchment. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce EURECCCA to the stakeholders in Pager Matidi Sub Catchment and to support the establishment of a sub catchment management committee that will oversee the implementation of interventions in the sub catchment.
 

 

 

 

 

The Ministry of Water and Environment through the Directorate of Water Resources Management launched the EURECCCA (Enhancing Resilience of Communities to Climate Change through Catchment Based Integrated Management of Water and Related Resources in Uganda) project for Maziba catchment in Kabale district. Maziba catchment is found in Kagera Basin in Victoria Water Management Zone. The project will contribute towards addressing the critical challenges related to natural resources management and sustainable socio- economic development without destroying the environment which is the major source of income for many livelihoods.

The State Minister for Environment Hon.Gorretti Mary Kitutu launched the EURECCCA project in Aswa Catchment, Upper Nile Water Management Zone at Boma hotel in Gulu district. The Aswa Catchment is approximately 31,428km2 of this 27, 631km2 lie within Uganda while the remaining 3, 797km2 lie within South Sudan. Aswa Catchment in Uganda covers the the districts of Kaabong, Kotido, Napak, Kitgum, Lamwo, Pader, Agago, Abim, Kole, Amuria, Otuke, Alebtong, Lira, Gulu and Oyam. The catchment is clustered into eight sub catchments that are Agago, Aswa 1, Aswa 2, Aswa 3, Nyimur, Pager Aringa, Pager Matidi and Pager Kitgum subcatchments. The implementing  entity of the project is Sahara and Sahel Observatory(OSS) and the executing entity of the project is the Directorate of Water Resources Management under the Ministry of Water and Environment . The goal of the project is to increase the resilience of communities to the risk of floods in Aswa Catchment through promoting catchment based integrated, equitable and sustainable management of water and related resources.
