Comprehensive training of women and youth groups in kamwenge and Ntoroko district by LEAF II Project

The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Water and Environment under the LEAF ll project conducted a comprehensive training of women and youth groups in kamwenge and Ntoroko district aimed at enhancing skill development and livelihood opportunities as a means to reduce pressure on lakes, rivers and wetlands.
Subsequently, on the 27th and 28th February 2019, the ministry of Water and Environment under the LEAF ll project handed over starter kits for livelihood improvement activities.
The NPC of the LEAF ll project , eng. Steven Ogwete, encouraged these groups to keep on the good work and also assured them of the support that the project will render to them.
He also confirmed that the project will not leave these groups on their own, they will also be trained in business management and access capital that will further uplift the groups through proper financial management.
The groups had already started production of soap, shampoos, disinfectants, chalk and many others that they have already started selling to schools and different communities.
This project intervention is part of the overall initiatives of the government of Uganda under the auspices of the multinational lakes Edward and Albert integrated fisheries and water resources management (LEAF ll)  Project and covers lakes Edward and Albert.
These functions were graced by a representative to the RDC in kamwenge, District chairperson of Ntoroko and the woman MP of Ntoroko.
This not the only activity that the LEAF ll project has and will implement in kamwenge and Ntoroko districts. The project has :
- [ ] Drilled one borehole at kicungiro in kihuge sub county
- [ ] Constructed one public sanitation facility in kiyagara
- [ ] Currently constructing one landing site in mahyoro town council
- [ ] Construction of 3 public sanitation facilities at Nyakasenyi, kanara landing site and kachwankumu landing sites in Ntoroko with 6 stance toilets
- [ ] Borehole of 24m3/hr yield with hand pump installed but planned to be motorized in kyabukunguru
- [ ] Trained district staff in monitoring, control and surveillance
- [ ] Conducted semuliki riverbank restoration and stabilization in Bweramule sub county in Ntoroko
